Eagle Creek Park Kids Fishing Derby (Indianapolis)

The Eagle Creek Park Foundation invites children ages 4-14 to one of the nation’s largest municipal parks for a free-fishing day. Kids can fish license-free and enjoy the great outdoors with a cookout, door prizes, goody bags, the Pacers Fan Van and area mascots.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing equipment, although a limited number of rods and reels will be available to borrow. Bait is provided. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Pre-registration deadline is May 30 at 5 p.m. Registration forms are available at the Eagle Creek Park Office or online at www.eaglecreekpark.org. Space is limited to the first 400 participants.

Rain date is scheduled for Sunday, June 2.

Home Depot Kids Workshop: Lawn Mower Pencil Holder! (Nationwide)

Mayor’s Bike Ride (Indianapolis)

Event Description
Join Mayor Greg Ballard for the 5th Annual Mayor’s Bike Ride. This year the ride will start at Butler University and highlight the new bike lanes on Illinois Street and Capitol Avenue. Participants will enjoy a casual 10 mile bike ride that will loop back to Butler University.

Bike safety information, children’s bike helmets, door prizes, and snacks will be available for participants. FREE T-shirts will be provided to the first 200 participants that register! Shirts will also be available to purchase on the day of the ride.

Monument Circle Tours (Indianapolis)

Indiana Landmarks’ free guided tour around the physical and symbolic heart of Indianapolis tells the intriguing story of Monument Circle, past and present. You’ll hear about the Soldiers and Sailors Monument and why the woman on top faces south. You’ll learn the roundabout’s role in the original city plan and the stories of the encircling architecture.

Tour details

When?  10:00 a.m. every Friday and Saturday, May-October (no reservation required, no tour if it’s raining cats and dogs).

Where? Tour departs from the South Bend Chocolate Company, located in the southwest quadrant of Monument Circle.

Parking? We suggest one of the Circle Centre mall garages, $1.50 for three hours (enter from Georgia, Illinois, or Washington streets).

Available at other times? Yes, we’ll be happy to conduct a tour on the day and time of your choosing for a fee. We charge $5 per person, with a $50 minimum charge, so it’s best to have a group.

BritBeat: A Summer Reading Kickoff Concert with the Premier Beatles Tribute Band (Indianapolis)

To kick off the Library’s 2013 Summer Reading Program, “Read Together, Right Now!”, children, teens and families are invited for a theatrical recreation concert celebrating the greatest rock and roll band of all time, the Beatles! Take a trip back to 1964 with BritBeat’s tribute to the Beatles, with mop tops, retro costumes, vintage instruments and harmonizing vocals. It’s a musical, visual, multimedia and theatrical concert that authentically recreates the electrifying performances of the “Fab Four.” This free concert will be held in the Clowes Auditorium at Central Library. Seating is limited. Free tickets will be available at 12 noon in the Learning Curve.
