GEOFEST
Oct. 19 and 20, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Oct. 21, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
What’s shakin’ and rockin’ at the Indiana State Museum? GeoFest — the museum’s fossil, rock and mineral show! In addition to Ice Age fossils and colorful gemstones, GeoFest will be shaking things up with the addition of the Indiana Geological Survey’s new Quake Cottage where visitors can experience a safe yet realistic experience of simulated earthquakes ranging in magnitudes of 5.5 to 8.0.
Another new addition to GeoFest is the inaugural Shake, Rattle & Roll Contest. Everyone is welcome to come test their engineering skills to design and construct a balsa wood model of a water tower that can withstand the forces of simulated earthquakes.
GeoFest still maintains its classic show of various demonstrators displaying cut stones, fossils and raw crystals from all over the world that are available for sale.
SHAKE, RATTLE & ROLL CONTEST

Free for members; $12 per non-member (registration fee includes museum and GeoFest admission)

New to GeoFest 2012 is the inaugural Shake, Rattle & Roll Contest. If you build it, they will shake it — your water tower that is! Everyone is welcome to come test their engineering skills to design and construct a balsa wood model of a water tower that can withstand the forces of simulated earthquakes. Contestants are welcome to register as an individual or as a team to see if your tower has what it takes to survive the quake.
